Successfully Completed (2019-2020)
On the backdrop of the Global Compact on refugees, the project, Refugees Across Spaces (RAS)- The collaborative project, was aimed at stimulating refugee local integration in an environment alive with the freedom of expression, Gender Equality, and non-discrimination through participatory art approaches.
Art disciplines in the project include poetry, dance, and improvisation theatre. The project was a collaborative project between Regina theatre, Uppsala, and The Cultural Avenue, with financial support from the Swedish Institute. The Cultural Avenue also received ground coordination support from the American Refugee Committee, now rebranded Alight.
Objective and Purpose of Objective.
In support of refugee local integration as envisaged by the Global compact for refugees, the project model envisages that artistic collaboration between refugees and their hosts will enhance contact, interaction, networks, and breakage of negative stereotypes and stigmatization of refugees, creating an environment that enhances freedom of expression and the realization of human rights for refugees.
We believe that Culture, in all its variation, connects people more than divides them. At the Cultural Avenue, we aspire to promote the innovative use of culture as a connector of people.
